In Indonesia, customs are divided into red-light customs and green-light customs. The red-light period in Indonesia refers to the situation where the Indonesian government imposes restrictions on imported goods during a specific period. The introduction of this policy is mainly to control the trade balance within Indonesia, alleviate the pressure on the local currency exchange rate, and promote the development of domestic manufacturing industries in Indonesia. During the red-light period, the Indonesian government will conduct strict reviews of imported goods and detain or impose fines on those that do not meet the regulations.

Generally speaking, from December of each year to March of the following year is the red light period for import clearance in Indonesia. During this period, strict inspections will be carried out on goods exported from China to Indonesia. In terms of time, it mainly depends on the policies of the Indonesian customs. The Indonesian customs will jointly work with other law enforcement departments to conduct strict inspections on import clearance. The clearance procedures will be relatively more complicated and the time will be longer. If the operation is not handled properly, it will also lead to the generation of more expenses.

Green: The goods can be delivered, the documents are complete, and pick-up is available. The queuing process at the port may take up to one day. 


Yellow: Some additional documents are required. The goods are currently being stored and storage fees may apply. The average duration is 2-3 days. 


Red: New importer, incomplete documents, customs requires physical inspection, high-risk goods or originated from high-risk countries, may incur storage

 fees. Average time: 7 working days. 

The red light period indicates the highest-level inspection policy implemented by the Indonesian customs for imported goods. If the goods are red-tagged, 

they will definitely undergo 100% inspection.
